Class of Horse Betting
Horse betting is often associated to both class and culture. A Sunday afternoon at the Derby is looked upon as one of the finer things in life. Also known as the "sport of Kings", horse betting is basically gambling wrapped up with a big bow of style.
Horse races can take place between two or more horses, and the betting includes predicting the winning horse. Betting on horses can be a long shot; hence they require both a good eye and small amounts of luck. Horse races are primarily of two types consisting of National Hunt races and Flat races. The former are longer in length and test the jumping abilities of the horses while the latter are much shorter and assess speed. Then there is the handicap race, where the relatively better horses carry extra weight in order to make it a level playing field for all horses.
Horse betting comprises several bets, but the most popular ones are 'win', 'place', 'each-way', 'forecasts', and 'tricasts'. Win bets are when you predict the ultimate winner of the race, whereas a place bet allows you to pick a horse that comes in 1st or 2nd place in a race of 5 to 7 runners. An each-way bet contains half of a win bet and half of a place bet, where you select a horse that might either win or get a place. Forecasts entail picking horses that will win 1st and 2nd place in order and tricasts incorporate picking the first three winning horses in order.
